Immigration
The most important actions needed immediately are to seal the borders and enforce the current immigration laws. Then we can move to solve the immigration control issue.
The Democrats and Republicans have totally failed on the immigration issue and it will take time to correct this. A major problem we have seen for years is that the Democrats and Republicans both act on vote potential polls and not the issue itself. There is no indication that either the Democrats or Republicans will fix the problem now or in the future.
The American private enterprise system is so good that there is always a need for more businesses and workers. Welfare-to-work programs and normal population growth is not enough to provide the full extent of the needs for our expected increase in our standard of living. Therefore, there is a definite long-term need for a controlled expansion of immigration.
It will take time to identify non-documented immigrants. Many of whom have been good law abiding people (except for immigration violators) for many years. Bob will develop a way that non-documented immigrants can pay restitution for immigration violations and work for naturalization, or be deported.
Holding employers responsible immediately for all hiring of non-documented immigrants is not workable. If all employers fired all non-documented immigrants in a short time, there would be over two million people with no way for support, requiring immediate deportation of all non-documented immigrants. This would not be possible or equitable when the main culprit of the problem is our federal government, and not the immigrants. There must be a reasonable time to get immigration under control. Bob thinks it might be about two years before all workers can be properly documented.
Some additional actions needed.
1. The government needs to provide tamper-proof IDs for non-citizens for use by employers, service providers, and law enforcement. If we have tamper-proof IDs for non-citizens, we need tamper-proof IDs for citizens, or the non-citizen will just claim they are citizens with false ID. This is a major dilemma where individual personal freedoms are considered. Suggestions?
2. No Social Security or other tax-paid benefits should be provided for non-citizens.
3. We should deport undocumented immigrants who break the law immediately.
4. We should deport non-citizens using non-legal identification.
5. Immigration quotas must be expanded to permit a significant increase in controlled immigration.
6. We need to develop an enforceable foreign worker program.
A special message to our Latino community.
Don’t let our government destroy your strong family and religious tradition with socialized programs that require destruction of your strong extended family and religious values as our government has done for other American ethnic communities.
For at least 40 years the US government has miss-handled immigration in general, and Spanish immigration in particular. Please assist President Bob to make a controlled correction of the immigration policy for the benefit of all current, and future, American citizens. Spanish immigrants are welcomed. Americans want immigrants to become legally naturalized citizens of the U.S.A. with all the benefits and responsibilities expected of all citizens.
